Founder member of the GTB

Prof. Dr. Andreas Spillner

Prof. Dr. Andreas Spillner Andreas Spillner is convinced that quality will win through in the long run. And experience shows that the professor at the chair for electrical engineering and computing sciences at the Bremen College is right. Systematic software testing has, in fact, been established slowly but surely in practice over the past decades. This development has been supported also by the GTB. Through his commitment to the independent organization, Professor Spillner works towards ensuring that the principle of “quality” will gain further ground against unsystematic ad-hoc testing.

For almost 30 years, the researcher and university lecturer has been involved in the fields of software development and testing. After studying computing sciences at the Technical University Berlin and his doctorate at the University of Bremen, Andreas Spillner joined the Bremen Technical College in 1993, where he holds the professorial chair for programming and software technology. His principal subject is quality assurance, from software validation to the testing of object-oriented software.

As an expert for software quality, he places great value on the testing of software and strives towards giving this aspect the same level of significance in university training as already established in industry. He sees the GTB as a centre for the steering and control of know-how exchange between practical testing on one side and research and theory on the other side.

Andreas Spillner as a member of the GTB has been on board from the very start. In addition to this, he lead from 1990 to 2003 the special-interest group “Test, analysis and verification of software” (TAV) of the Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI).
