Prof. Dr. Ina Schieferdecker
Apart from research, the life of Prof. Dr. Ina Schieferdecker revolves very much around teaching and learning. For a university professor, this is not unusual. As a scientist, however, Prof. Dr. Ina Schieferdecker also engages herself in the teaching of knowledge and transfer of know-how. Her chair is dedicated to the “Design and testing of communication-based systems”, and her commitment to a modern and professional quality assurance (QA) has lead to her membership in the GTB shortly after the association was founded. In addition, she also belongs to the committee of the „Arbeitskreis Software-Qualität & Fortbildung“ (ASQF®) and engages herself for for TTCN-3 at the European Telecommunication Standards Institute (ETSI). TTCN-3 is a standardised technology, developed specifically for testing solutions – primarily for the automation of the testing of communication-based systems.
The subject of software testing has occupied Ina Schieferdecker since her doctorate in the mid-nineties. At that time, she developed an interest in this subject, because software QA was so obviously an important matter that was often badly represented. Maybe because it was not so easy to create technical test systems in a scientifically sound manner: The subject sounded exciting. It did not take long for the tutor and researcher to realise that she was not dealing with some destructive procedure, but was involved in a very multi-faceted task. A QA expert must, in her opinion, have an eye for more than the typical software developer – simply because he has to understand both software development and software testing.
At the GTB, Ina Schieferdecker is predominantly involved in the working parties „Universities“ and „TTCN-3“. In addition to this, she recently led the working party for the „Expert Level“ of the Certified Tester training. This future-oriented subject attracts the university lecturer’s interest also because of its modernity. Accordingly, it is close to her heart that the GTB should remain open for future-oriented topics – model-based testing for example – and that these topics are further promoted with other national testing boards.
