Dr. Uwe Hehn
Dr. Uwe Hehn was already testing software when most computer scientists had not even heard of quality assurance (QA) as an independent discipline. In those days, QA was mainly limited to developer testing performed in parallel to programming. Even literature on the subject was difficult to find back in the nineties. This situation, however, was to become an advantage for the graduated mathematician and computer scientist with doctor’s degree. The demand for professional software testers grew everywhere, and at that time Uwe Hehn was one of the few people who didn’t need to start from scratch and first become acquainted with the subject-matter. Today, he works as consultant for software testing and software development processes; in addition, he regularly trains specialists in software QA.
For Uwe Hehn, software testing during the last decade has made a huge leap forwards: from an isolated task, software testing has developed into a fully integrated element of the software development process. This is also due to the training of the ISTQB® Certified Tester, which in Germany is managed by the German Testing Board e.V. (GTB); one more reason for the IT specialist to participate in the GTB. He joined the association soon after its foundation.
To him, the GTB provides an ideal platform for the continuing improvement of the syllabi for the Certified Tester training. In addition to this, the GTB has given him the means to win over further interested parties for the subject of tester training. To this end, Uwe Hehn welcomes the fact that the GTB will in certain cases bear the cost of examination fees. Also the cooperation with quality experts from other organisations is close to his heart – for example with the working group „Test, Analysis, Verification“ (TAV) at the Gesellschaft für Informatik. His motto: „Put the common interest into the foreground and cooperate constructively”.
